Using Affirmations & Visualizations
© By Diane Mandle
"Visualizations are an excellent way to work directly with the subconscious in order to access parts of our self that need either acknowledgement, strengthening and/or releasing. Working with the sacred sound instruments is accessing a cognitive, cellular, emotional and spiritual aspect within each person. Intention setting, affirmations and guided visualizations help to support the work you do with the instruments and create powerful shifts. They also help to create ownership within clients as they call for some extent of participation.
Any effective affirmation or visualization will guide the client into their own inner journey and expression. To that end practitioners should not put their agenda onto the client, though this is something that happens all to often. Guided meditation leaders sometimes describe every little detail of where they want you to go in the session. To me, this is a mistake because it’s not about our vision of where we want clients go; rather we are setting up a verbal context for them to discover an intimate part of themselves.
To create a good visualization is to use very few words and just enough structure to help the client access their inner world. It is important to practice guiding visualizations aloud so you deliver them seamlessly with a gentle, quiet volume and slow pace. By memorizing the scripts below, taping them and playing them back to yourself during your meditation, you begin to get an idea of what works and what doesn’t".
